A strong turn to the right did not apply to the voters

The Red Party did not achieve their goals, just as Serve the People predicted.

The Red Party had these ambitions before the elections:

  • To get two representatives into the parliament; from the counties Hordaland and Oslo.
  • To break the election threshold of 4 %.
  • To double the number of members in the party.

Now it can be summarized that the Red Party is far from any of these ambitions:

  • The Red Party is just as far away from the election threshold as earlier.
  • The Red Party will not have any representatives in parliament.
  • The number of members has not risen since the Workers’ Communist Party liquidated itself and joined the Red Electoral Alliance to form a new party.

Serve the People has clearly stated why this is not going to happen. The Red Party has left its position as a revolutionary force and has tried to establish itself as a new supporting party for the «red-green» government. We stated that there is no need for any more social democratic parties, and the voters agreed with this.

It was not hard to predict that the medias would put a lot of focus on the question of government. When the Red Party themselves chose to focus on this question, the party got into a squeeze.

The Red Party would have done a better election and made a better platform for growth if the party had emphasized an independent revolutionary profile, been an opponent of all bourgeois thinking and been a sharp opposition with broader perspectives than to defend the disability benefit.

The Red Youth kicked out a lot of Marxist-Leninists from its organization, there was no longer any space for communistst there. This example was later followed within the Red Party where members of Serve the People also were thrown out after a process which diplomatically can be called swift.

We think the fact that the Red Party has lost a lot of hard working, young Marxist-Leninists, especially in Hordaland, has had a significance for the result.

Serve the People – Communist League has carried out our largest campaign so far, we have spread thousands copies of our magazine To the Struggle (Til kamp) and our members and friends have spread our electoral poster with the slogan:

Choose rebellion and socialism – boicott the elections

in several thousands copies. During the electoral campaign we have had conversations with hundreds of people, we have gained new members and friends. We are a small organization, but we now work in all parts of the country and in a clear majority of the 19 counties in Norway.

There will be changes in the Red Party, but not of a significant character. A lot of the young and trendy people who have been eagerly admiring the expulsions of communists and the abandoning of old principles will now leave the Red Party. They have never been revolutionaries and have no ideals of struggle for progress. They will vote with their feet and to blame everyone else for the defeat the party has suffered.
